I’m a beginner. The teacher gave me some piping diagrams, but I can’t understand them at all. What does “CONN.TO P-1536A/N1 W 4241 N 147500 EL +1130” mean? What about “6*3/4”NS? I have no idea what that refers to. Could someone please explain the other markings on the piping diagrams as well?
There should be a legend. It might be: CONN.TO P-1536A/N1 W 4241 N 147500 EL +1130 – connected to the N1 interface of P-1536A? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Elevation +1130
Correct answer: CONN.TO P-1536A/N1 W 4241 N 147500 EL +1130 – connects to port N1 of pump P-1536A; west coordinate 4241, north coordinate 147500, elevation +1130
What was said upstairs is completely correct: P stands for pump, the EL value is high and is expressed in millimeters, and the coordinates are also given in millimeters. By the way, for those upstairs: what does the starting point of the W and N coordinates generally refer to? For example, in the previous example, where does it indicate location – the position of this device or the position relative to the pump? If it’s the position relative to the pump, then where is the origin?
English dictionaries are useless. These are all codes that require explanation by the relevant personnel.
The elevations indicated in the general drawings are relative elevations. The relative elevation EL +0.00 corresponds to the absolute elevation – that is, the local sea level! EL +XXXX means: general elevation. EL +XXXX BOP means: bottom of pipe elevation. PT EL +XXXX means: point elevation. EL +XXXX TOP means: top elevation. NEL +XXXX means: nozzle elevation
I’ve also just started learning how to read installation diagrams; I’ve only been studying them for a few days. I realized that these abbreviations are likely the first letters of English words, so it’s useful to have some knowledge of technical English – it makes it easier to remember these symbols. Additionally, it helps to understand what they represent when looking at the diagrams; for example, E stands for condenser, T stands for tower, V stands for storage tank, and LI stands for level gauge. This is something I’ve learned from my own experience when reading diagrams; I’m not sure if it’s correct though Also, is there any senior who can provide detailed information on this topic, including the various symbols and such? CONN.TO P-1536A/N1 means connection to interface P-1536A/N1; this is presumably the interface identifier W 4241 N 147500 EL +1130, which represents the coordinate location of the interface. This design seems to use a 3D factory-based design template
For each project, an origin is artificially defined during design – that is, coordinates of 0,0 – and it is determined what the relative elevation corresponds to in terms of absolute elevation. For large-scale projects, the origin and relative elevations can also be defined based on the equipment itself; however, explanations must be provided on the drawings so that it is possible to know the distance and elevation of a particular device or pipeline with respect to the defined point.
