Coal-to-natural gas production generally refers to either the one-step method or the two-step method. Furthermore, coal-to-natural gas is more environmentally friendly; its wastewater contains no harmful substances and is easy to use, allowing it to be used as boiler feed water or makeup water for circulating water without any treatment required. In contrast, coal-to-methanol and synthetic oils require advanced treatment of their wastewater.

A more direct method is the direct gasification of coal to produce methane, using water as the gasifying agent. It undergoes further purification treatment. But coal-to-natural gas is not as good as developing and using new energy sources!
