What is the flexibility of a pipeline? How can it be achieved?
1. Flexible joints are used when connecting to equipment or pipes in order to reduce the damage to the pipe connections caused by vibrations generated during the operation of the equipment and while the pipes are in use. 2. In piping systems, especially in high-temperature piping systems, flexible pipe joints are required to absorb pipe deformation as well as the resulting thrust, bending moments, and shear forces. There are two common types of flexible pipe fittings: 1) metal flexible joints, namely metal expansion joints, with the U-shaped expansion joint being the most commonly used type. The materials used for such joints are typically carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and austenitic stainless steel, and the operating temperature generally ranges from 375°C to 500°C. 2 Fabric thermal expansion compensators have been increasingly adopted in recent years; their structure consists of an expansion element, an insulating layer, and metal components.
