I would like to ask whether a silencer should be installed after the vent valve on the high-pressure steam line and the safety valve on the low-pressure steam line. 1. When the turbine is started up for the first time, during the pipe warming process with 4.0 MPa high-pressure steam, it is necessary to open the drain valve; this allows steam to be vented while water is drained, thereby reducing the pipe warming time. However, the sound generated by the drain line is quite loud – should a silencer be installed? 2. Should a silencer be installed after the safety valve on the low-pressure steam pipeline at the turbine outlet?
Regarding the issue raised by the original poster, the following suggestions are given: 1. To minimize the noise generated by steam emissions, it is recommended to install a silencer after the vent valve of the high-pressure steam line. 2. According to relevant safety valve specifications, no silencer should be installed on the pipeline downstream of the safety valve. This is mainly to prevent the silencer from developing high resistance due to corrosion or other factors over time, which could lead to blockages and thus affect the proper discharge of fluid after the safety valve activates.
