The catalytic unit’s fractionation tower top water cooler features a pipe welded beneath the floating head; there is a nut below that pipe, but it seems to have never been used. What does it mean to weld something? Some say it is to prevent stress cracking, but some are welded while others are not. I also saw this thing outside the regenerator; could it be that it leaked and got welded there? Could someone give me some advice? Thank you

The one on the floating head is probably used for pressurizing the heat exchanger, while the one on the regenerator might be an inverse blowing duct
It is more likely to be used for sewage discharge; if pressurization is required, a pressure testing plate can be added to the flange
There should be ones on both the top and bottom, right? Condensate at the lower row, venting at the upper row; pressure testing is also possible
