Typically, the outlet temperature of a condenser is 49°C. Why do some Aspen designs choose a full-condensation outlet temperature of 90°C or 70°C, rather than 49°C? Are there any guidelines for this in terms of design?
The cooling water outlet temperature increased by 10 degrees gives the outlet temperature on the shell side of the condenser; however, there are exceptions. One of our condensers is designed to have an outlet temperature of 79 degrees. I would appreciate it if experts could explain the reasons for this
The outlet temperature of the condenser is related to the material being distilled. In general, the cooling medium is circulating water with a temperature of 30–40 degrees; therefore, when designing the heat exchanger, it is necessary to ensure an appropriate average temperature difference, which requires the outlet temperature after complete condensation to be 50 degrees or higher. Of course, the average temperature difference of the reboiler and the thermal stability of the material also need to be considered. The total condensation outlet temperature can be determined only by considering various factors comprehensively.
It mainly depends on whether the condenser outlet is subcooled or at the bubble point. By default, ASPEN does not specify subcooling; it uses the bubble point temperature, which is dependent on the system composition and pressure ; 49 degrees during operation is the subcooling temperature; subcooling must be specified.
