The distance between these cylinders and the area where welding is carried out should be at least 10 meters; however, this is practically impossible during large-scale construction projects – firstly, because there isn’t enough space, and secondly, abroad, oxygen cylinders and acetylene cylinders are usually placed together on cylinder carts. Since we are in China, foreign regulations can be ignored. The chemical industry requires a distance of 5 meters between gas cylinders (per AQ3022-2008 Safety Regulations for Hot Work in Chemical Production Units). We follow these standard requirements, and there are also strict rules regarding supervisors
When there is not enough space for large-scale construction, focus must be placed on the actual construction work; projects will not be halted just because there is insufficient space for storage or safe distances. But try to maintain the greatest possible safety distance; it is also dangerous if the oxygen cylinders and acetylene cylinders are too close to each other. On-site experience in this regard is very important; in addition, it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring of gas cylinders and implement various preventive measures.
I fully understand the original poster; in actual work, we are well aware of how difficult it can be to strictly adhere to standards and regulations. As for how to handle such situations, I think a case-by-case approach would work as well! Take the issue you mentioned as an example; the rule I used to follow was a distance of 5 meters, which is 3 meters more than what you require. As for standards and regulations, they are certainly derived from painful lessons learned through experience; there must be a reason why they exist in that form, so there is no need to discuss their correctness first. Secondly, the work site should strive to meet safety regulations and standards. If it does not meet the regulations and standards, there are definitely safety hazards. Although it’s impossible for all potential hazards to lead to accidents, safety cannot rely on luck. Furthermore, in large-scale construction projects, due to concurrent operations, there are inevitably areas that do not meet safety requirements; therefore, safety officers must be on site to conduct inspections and supervision, identifying behaviors that violate standards and regulations.
For those that can be brought to the specified distance, they must be at a distance greater than the specified value. It cannot be done if there is insufficient space or too many construction activities involving open flames. Then handle it flexibly and specifically. But the prerequisite is to ensure safety at all costs.
There’s a saying in management: if hardware is insufficient, use software to make up for it – it’s the last resort
