We selected 2 companies: one uses a Monsanto-type converter with a capacity of 120 kt/a and a diameter of 5800 mm, while the other uses a conventional-type converter with a diameter of 6200 mm and requires 12 m3 of catalyst. Is there a significant difference between them? What’s the difference? One of the managers in my company says that it’s better to use more catalysts, as this helps ensure a higher conversion rate. There seems to be no technical difference between the different types of converters, but I personally believe that there are indeed technical differences between the two types of converters. In what aspects exactly? We plan to use domestic catalysts. Please, guys, share your opinions! ! ! !
I have used both domestic and imported catalysts; the imported catalysts have a much longer lifespan than domestic ones, and they also result in less pressure drop
The converters designed by Mengmoke Company certainly do not use domestic catalysts, but the quality of their catalysts is indeed better than ours. If you use Mengmoke’s products, you will have to use theirs again if you need to replace them in the future; if you switch to domestic catalysts, then the converter will no longer be suitable.

Imported catalysts have good strength and a long service life, roughly twice that of domestic ones. In my opinion, it is better to use imported catalysts.
In terms of actual use, it can be said that Monsanto catalysts are definitely superior to domestic ones; their advantages include guaranteed conversion rates, low resistance, high strength, and a long service life. Environmental protection work will then be trouble-free. I know that the longest operating period for sulfur-based acid production is 6 years; Monsanto catalysts are still in use today, and the activity analysis and strength tests of these catalysts show no issues at all! Based on the data from upstairs, if domestic catalysts are to be used, it’s better to opt for converter 6200. You can contact some domestic catalyst manufacturers, provide them with the relevant parameters, and do the calculations yourself; you’ll then realize that the 5800 converter might not be sufficient. To put it simply, when using a 5800 converter, it’s better to use foreign catalysts. If domestic catalysts are used, there’s a risk that the required performance standards won’t be met.
