Ethylene is produced using naphtha from refinery atmospheric and vacuum distillation, and downstream of ethylene are polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol, and propylene oxide/propanediol plants. The pyrolysis gasoline from the bottom of the debutaning column in the ethylene plant can be used as a feedstock for aromatic extraction via hydrogenation, and benzene, toluene, and xylene are produced through this aromatic extraction process. The C4 from the ethylene plant can be sent to the butadiene extraction unit to produce high-value butadiene; downstream of the butadiene plant is the MTBE/butene 1 plant. Further downstream, polyethylene and polypropylene can be used as raw materials to produce plastics, while butadiene can be used to manufacture styrene-butadiene rubber, cis-butadiene rubber, and others.
