There are many areas in the methanol plant where nitrogen is used. What are the requirements regarding the purity of nitrogen in such areas of the methanol plant?
The key is where to use it? The requirements for methanol synthesis, distillation, tank farms, and so on vary. Large-scale installations usually come equipped with large-scale air separation units, enabling nitrogen purity to be achieved with an O2 content of less than 10 ppm. Of course, the higher the purity, the better. However, for distillation and storage areas, an O2 content of less than 1 percent is sufficient to meet safety requirements.
It depends on what you use it for. If it is used to protect the replacement part or the synthetic catalyst, a purity of not less than 99.9% is required; for use in replacing other components, 98.5% is sufficient. If it is only used for pressure testing and leak detection, and that particular area is resistant to oxygen, then the required purity level is even lower
In fact, in methanol production, the nitrogen level does not necessarily need to be above 99.9%; what’s crucial is the oxygen content, as this can be very dangerous
Generally, the nitrogen used is obtained from air separation; its purity is 99.99%. Additionally, there should be no water present
Our factory requires: 99.999%
Not less than 98.5%; of course, the higher the purity, the better. Essentially, the lower the oxygen content in the control system, the safer the device will be.
Our methanol synthesis catalyst requires an oxygen content of less than 10 ppm.
Our factory uses 99.999% pure nitrogen for protecting synthetic catalysts, while 99.9% purity is required for other applications
Generally, what’s mainly considered is the oxygen content; for synthesis, three nines of nitrogen is sufficient. Of course, the higher the purity, the better.
This mainly depends on the oxygen content; based on past experience, the purity of nitrogen in the system is greater than 99%. 7% is enough
The purity of nitrogen in our factory is 99.99%, and it is available in pressures of 0.1MPa, 0.5MPa, 2.5MPa, and 15MPa. Moreover, the oxygen content must not exceed the limit; this is very important.
