Dew point corrosion primarily affects the flues of furnaces, as it prevents hydrogen sulfide or sulfur trioxide from causing corrosion in the equipment when they come into contact with water. Generally, the temperature of the furnace is kept above 100 degrees Celsius; I believe it’s important to consider the dew point temperature of hydrogen sulfide, and keeping it above 150°C should be sufficient to avoid problems.

Flue gas dew point corrosion occurs because sulfur-containing elements in the fuel are oxidized to sulfur trioxide during combustion; when the temperature of the outer surface of the heat exchange surface is lower than the flue gas dew point temperature, sulfuric acid mist and droplets form on that surface, leading to corrosion. The flue gas dew point temperature is related to the partial pressures of water vapor and sulfur trioxide in the flue gas, so this value can be determined by consulting tables
