Let’s discuss under what circumstances magnesium nitrate needs to be precipitated. Should we wait until it starts affecting production (actually, making this judgment is quite difficult), or is it possible to know in advance through other means? In other words, the magnesium nitrate solution used nowadays is generally obtained by directly dissolving magnesium nitrate hexahydrate; its impurity content is lower than that of magnesium nitrate produced by the reaction of magnesium oxide with nitric acid, so it may not be necessary to carry out a sedimentation process.
As the original poster said, it’s difficult to determine under what circumstances settlement is necessary. But settling is still beneficial for production whenever there is an opportunity; the dewatering effect is significantly better after settling. Even if it can’t settle completely, some settlement is still good. These days, ready-made magnesium nitrate is generally purchased, but after use for a period of time, the magnesium solution still contains high levels of impurities and requires sedimentation.
Settling certainly has advantages, but the key issue is to determine what form of settling will have the least impact on normal production; moreover, the possibility of implementing online settling would **help reduce costs.
We generally use gravity sedimentation after dilution. During normal production, some settlement also occurs through replacement. Experiments using side filtration did not yield the expected results.

I installed a filter at the outlet of the dilute magnesium pump to return it to the dilute magnesium tank. Many materials have been tried for the filter element, but with little noticeable effect. We are currently working with filter manufacturers to have them design and manufacture it on our behalf.
