In large-scale monitoring systems, the client/server architecture is almost universally used for monitoring. Among common general-purpose configuration software, 1. Intouch features a typical point-to-point architecture, rather than a client/server (C/S) architecture. Intouch cannot achieve server redundancy. Intouch’s client must be licensed with points. As for Intouch’s relative, IAS adopts a standard C/S architecture. On the IAS platform, the IAS Server controls the scale and number of nodes, while Intouch is only responsible for displaying the interface on the client side, which is called Intouch View. 2. iFix has a stand-alone version and a network version. The online version supports the standard C/S architecture. All Io devices (PLCs, DCS) are connected to the server, which is configured in a redundant manner; all clients are then connected to this server. The server acts as a bridge between the underlying hardware and the clients. iFix remains one of the most classic HMI software solutions. Moreover, iFix remains the software with the best performance for DCS-HMI OEMs. The current problem with iFix is that the so-called infinite-point version of iFix has a power handling capacity of less than 2W. A little more and it can hardly be sustained. The explanation for this is actually quite simple: GE is forcing companies to use the iH system for large-scale projects. More expensive software. iH claims it can handle 10W without any problem. There is actually a simple piece of evidence to support my argument. . . The HMI monitoring for Emerson’s DeltaV is an OEM of iFix. But it can handle tens of thousands of points without any problem. (It also cannot exceed 4W5K points), while the standard version of iFix has issues when supporting over 2W points. 3.WinCC。 WinCC is also a software with a highly flexible architecture, capable of being scaled up or down. It can operate in stand-alone mode, as well as in a network architecture; it supports the C/S architecture without any issues, and it’s also a very classic approach. Moreover, as one of the main components of PCS7, it is generally recommended that when there are more than 8 operation stations, a C/S architecture \"must\" be used. 4.Citect。 Currently, the new versions of Citect are almost all based on a C/S architecture. Its system scale can also support over 100,000 points. In particular, several subway projects have scores of over 100,000. For a project of this scale, you simply have no chance to choose a stand-alone architecture; you must opt for a client/server structure instead. Because the standalone version can hardly support monitoring applications with tens of thousands of points at all. Such a heavy load should be intelligently handed over to the server. 5. The RSView32 for AB is not a client-server architecture; it is a stand-alone version. AB’s RSView SE features a client/server architecture. However, as AB’s HMI software, SE has many issues at the moment; its system licensing calculation is peculiar, as it counts the number of screens rather than the usual number of IO points. It also retains the legacy of Honeywell PlantScape, but it seems that AB is still a bit too immature.
