Axial positioning of single-stage centrifugal pumps

How to determine the gap? How old? Is it the bearing next to the coupling?

1) Pure axial load: For thrust ball bearings of type H8, the clearance between the housing bore and the ring is typically 0.001D (where D is the outer diameter of the bearing). 2) When the radial load is taken care of by another bearing, the clearance between the housing bore and the ring remains 0.001D (D being the outer diameter of the bearing). 3) Combined axial and radial load: In the case of thrust ball bearings where the ring bears partial loads or oscillating loads, the clearance is H7 under normal conditions; J7 is used for high axial loads. 4) Combined axial and radial load: For thrust ball bearings where the ring bears cyclic loads, the clearance is K7 under normal conditions; M7 is used for high radial loads. 5) b. When installing the bearing by heating, it should be heated to 80–120°C (not exceeding 120°C), and then quickly installed on the shaft against the shaft shoulder or a shoulder pad. Direct heating with an open flame is not allowed during this process； c. For bearings with cylindrical inner holes, care must be taken during installation to ensure the proper fit between the bearing, the shaft, and the socket hole ； For tapered hole bearings, attention must be paid to the depth to which the bearing is pressed into the tapered mating surface, and the clearance should be measured regularly ； When installing tapered roller bearings, angular contact bearings, and thrust bearings, pay attention to checking and adjusting the axial clearance. 2.4.3 The inner and outer rings of the bearing shall be axially tightened; the axial play of the adjustable bearing shall be adjusted in accordance with the requirements specified in the drawings. The axial clearances of the various adjustable bearings listed in Table 6 are provided for reference during installation and adjustment. 2.4.4 When installing the matched thrust bearings, the two bearings of the same model should be assembled back to back or face to face; the clamping force exerted by the bearing caps on the outer rings must be such as to maintain the axial clearance of the bearings. Axial play can be adjusted by the gland gasket

If there’s only 8 degrees of axial play, I think it will be very difficult to get it adjusted properly

Bearings, as well as shaft shoulders and bearing caps, cannot use clearance adjustment.

Adjust the thickness of the bearing gland gasket, or the shaft shoulder size

Can positioning be achieved just with bearings???
