Does anyone know what the requirements are for the pressure vessel inspection certificate exam? My major is Process Equipment and Control Engineering; I graduated in 2005. Previously, I was involved in equipment management at petrochemical plants, and now I have been working on pressure vessel design for two years. I thought that three years of experience in design (and review) would be sufficient, but it turns out six years are required. No wonder a mid-level engineer title is necessary :(

Experience in equipment management cannot replace experience in equipment design. That’s right: first, work for three years at a company with design qualifications carrying out design work, then spend another three years working on design verification while obtaining a professional engineer title. After that, one must register with the relevant technical supervision bureau and complete training there before being able to take the exam for a pressure vessel inspection certificate.
