1. Think before you speak, and be cautious in what you say; talking too much is pointless. A man should be good at bearing hardships and holding back his tears. Remember: Dismissing the emotions that others invest equals despising oneself. Indulging in distractions leads to a loss of ambition, while exploiting others corrupts one’s character. Loving others is a virtue. 　　10. Those who praise you behind your back should be cherished in your heart; there’s very little falsity in such praise. Complimenting you in front of others is considered flattery; in more offensive terms, it’s seen as fawning. You can just laugh it off and act as if nothing happened. Perhaps they will soon need your help. As for those who compliment you in public, you can’t afford to ignore them. Maybe they’ll turn around and poke you with their fingers. Keep one rule in mind: criticize yourself more when there are many people around, and praise others less, unless it’s time to recognize someone’s merits. 　　11. Some people are used to taking advantage of you; they have narrow minds, but you should be generous. If you get the chance to deal a heavy blow to them and make them suffer greatly, that will also remind them that there’s no such thing as a free lunch in this world – no easy gains for anyone. With nearly 6 billion people in the world, it’s not easy to meet anyone; therefore, when faced with negative fates, we should try to be tolerant and give the other person a chance, rather than rejecting them outright from the start. 　　15. When interacting with others, one must know one’s place; one shouldn’t always consider oneself an important figure, a leader, a rich person, or a romantic hero, nor should one be overly self-assured. Even if one has achieved some success or accomplished notable things, one still needs to be cautious, humble, and act as if one is not that smart.
