Yellow smoke indicates an excess of gas, while black smoke is caused by leaks. White smoke ------- Water has entered the flue, causing water to accumulate in the main flue.
It should be considered whether the possibility of water entering the flue is high. Additionally, if coking furnace gas is being used, check whether there are any leaks in the preheater, as steam may be mixing into the gas.

The gas recycled from coke ovens is not desulfurized, and the sulfur content in the coal fed into the ovens is also high; as a result, the SO2 level in the flue gases generated by this recycled combustion is high. Additionally, the air excess factor in the coke oven flue gases is high, leading to a high oxygen content. This causes SO2 to be oxidized to SO3, forming sulfuric acid mist, which gives the flue gases a white appearance. It might be related to this.
One of our plants has a coke oven flue where water accumulation is quite severe; this affects the suction capacity during the summer. However, we have never observed any white smoke coming from it. Therefore, I believe that water can be ruled out as the cause. The idea regarding SO2 is interesting – if blast furnace gas is being used, could it be due to dust present in that gas? In other words, could it be a problem with the dust removal system for blast furnace gas?
I think it’s probably a problem with water vapor. The original poster said it’s certain that it’s not water vapor, but it’s difficult to determine the source of the water vapor; it’s best to check each possibility one by one. Moreover, since the time frame involved isn’t long, it’s even harder to identify what’s causing the leakage. I’ve never encountered the sulfur issue mentioned by the person on floor 5, but if it’s due to sulfur in the recycled gas, then it’s not something that can be resolved in just a couple of hours – it should be a persistent problem. I suggest the original poster carefully check whether there is water vapor being introduced into the flue gas.

Sulfur dioxide can’t be white, right? Just look at the flue stacks from sintering plants to see. White smoke coming from a chimney is likely water vapor; visibility or invisibility is a matter of atmospheric temperature. It can be seen when the temperature is low, but not when it is high. Sometimes it’s just a few degrees away: lol
It might be steam; the gas contains too much moisture, which condenses when it exits the chimney, especially before and after direction changes
I first agree with the comments from floor 5 and floor 7; I’ve seen a coking plant producing high-sulfur coke, and its chimneys emit white smoke most of the time.
There is water accumulation in the flue of one of our furnaces; the white smoke coming from the chimney is actually water vapor, which condenses upon coming into contact with cold air, resulting in the white smoke.
It’s probably caused by water accumulation in the flue; simply drain the water from the flue drainage well in a timely manner.
