Case: Liquid-solid reaction process carried out in a reactor; a standard ball valve (6\") is used at the bottom. Solid materials often accumulate at the outlet of the reactor bottom, causing difficulties in discharging the material. There are two types of bottom discharge valves. One type is the ball valve, but it’s not just any ball valve – the inlet is designed in a fan shape to prevent the medium from accumulating at the valve inlet; this type of valve is a fixed-ball valve, such as those produced by KTM in Japan. The other type is the piston valve. When the valve is closed, the outer surface of the piston aligns with the inner side of the reactor, which prevents the medium from staying there and stops self-polymerization (as in PP/PE reactors). The main manufacturers of such valves are foreign companies like SCHFU (Germany)
The bottom discharge valve is divided into upward-opening and downward-opening types. For reactors that are subject to pressure, upward-opening discharge valves are generally preferred; during operation (when discharging material), the valve core rises inside the reactor, moving away from the sealing surface with the valve seat, thereby allowing the material to be discharged. For reactors used in normal-pressure reactions, a downward-opening discharge valve is generally suitable, as the direction of movement of its valve core is exactly the opposite to that of an upward-opening valve. Many domestic valve manufacturers produce manual discharge valves (of the upward or downward type), and it is sufficient to provide them with the specific technical parameters in order to select the appropriate model. For pneumatic or electric discharge valves, there are relatively few manufacturers in China; large manufacturers can supply the valve body, but the actuators for these valves are mostly imported products.
