Follow the “3-3” rule when writing a cover letter. A cover letter is the “golden key” to opening the doors to job opportunities. At this China Employment Mayors Forum, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security reminded job seekers that to write an effective cover letter, it is necessary to avoid three things, follow three guidelines, and emphasize three key aspects. The so-called “three taboos” are as follows: First, avoid being complacent and assuming that having skills, experience, and a degree constitutes all the necessary qualifications for success in finding a job; avoid overconfidence in the belief that one’s talents are bound to be useful, which leads to an overconfident tone in job application letters, or even making excessive demands ; The second mistake is to write lengthy passages describing one’s abilities and interests in almost every profession, adopting an attitude of being capable of handling anything ; Third, avoid having an unclear theme; don’t cover every detail and turn it into a mere chronological summary of work achievements.
“I understand the “three taboos”; so what are the “three requirements” and the “three priorities”?
The so-called “three essentials” refer to the need for careful planning, with an emphasis on demonstrating or implying one’s intelligence, adaptability, work attitude, and potential for development; Secondly, one must show genuine enthusiasm, demonstrating a strong interest in the organization and the position for which they are applying; appropriate modal verbs can be used in the writing to convey this sentiment ; Third, it must be novel and unique; both in form and content, it should strive to deliver a sense of impact or shock, emphasizing key points while also covering the broader aspects. The so-called “three highlights” refer to emphasizing one’s “reputation, excellence, and uniqueness,” with these qualities being directly relevant to the position sought. First is to highlight reputation – how well-known you are among your peers or in the surrounding community, what achievements you have made, what awards you have received, and what others think of you ; Second, highlight your strengths and advantages, especially those that you possess but others do not, such as the technical skills, knowledge level, and other capabilities that employers are looking for ; Third, it emphasizes special technologies and capabilities that enable solving difficulties others cannot handle, as well as designing and developing techniques and methods that others cannot conceive of.
