Preparatory work and precautions before shutting down the equipment for maintenance

Our unit will need to stop operating for maintenance in one month’s time. This is a major maintenance period; the CAT in the unit loses its effectiveness after 11 months of operation and needs to be refilled. I’m not sure what other precautions should be taken during these last month of operation. Although I have been working for almost two years, this is my first time facing such maintenance work. ⒈It is necessary to develop proper plans for shutting down and resuming operations； ⒉Coordinate with the catalyst manufacturer to have fresh catalyst delivered to the site, and arrange for the proper disposal of the used catalyst ； ⒊There are items that require rectification during operation, and the relevant documentation must be prepared ； ⒋Ensure the effective operation of the inspection, maintenance, and repair team ； ⒌Implement the catalyst loading team ； ⒍Take advantage of the shutdowns to learn about the issues that can be identified.
1. Develop a proper start-up and shutdown plan； 2. Organize relevant personnel to study the start-up and shutdown procedures repeatedly ； 3. Contact the catalyst manufacturer to have the fresh agent delivered to the site ； 4. Preparation is required for the cleaning and replacement of pipeline equipment ； 5. Arrange for the proper disposal of waste agents ； 6. Relevant materials must be prepared for other items that require rectification ； 7. Regarding personnel, ensure proper allocation of personnel for starting and stopping operations, maintenance teams, and catalyst loading teams ； 8. Individuals take the opportunity when the machine is shut down to familiarize themselves with its structure and learn about issues that cannot be understood under normal conditions.
Carefully list all the items that require overhauling, item by item; specify the reason for each overhaul, the materials to be used, the person responsible, etc. Mark the leaking valves on the equipment with color codes. or list it. In short, a major repair plan should not shy away from detail – it’s best to pay attention to every single screw.
As a catalyst ages, its activity generally decreases; therefore, the reaction temperature should be increased appropriately. Equipment is prone to leaks in its later stages of operation.
