Now, a dry distillation test needs to be carried out, and the gases produced must be analyzed. Sampling bags will be used to collect samples, which will then be taken with syringes for GC analysis. This is my first time working on this type of project; I’m not sure how others go about doing it
The first thing to do is definitely calibration, so as to determine the approximate composition of your gas and identify the peak positions of its components; otherwise, standard gases can be used to determine those peak positions.
1. If there is no volumetric tube, use a balloon to collect gas and then a volumetric syringe for sampling; the amount of sample taken with each injection should be the same, especially in the external standard method. 2. It would be best if your instrument is equipped with a six-way valve; if not, try to modify it – it’s quite easy to do. This will improve the accuracy and repeatability of sampling. The exhaust gases from the dry distillation process can be connected directly to the six-way valve, allowing for direct sampling. It would be even more convenient if it were an automatic six-way valve.
If your gas contains little dust, it can be sampled directly using a syringe for analysis. The prerequisite is that the instrument needs to be calibrated, that is, a standard sample must be used.
In my opinion, the analysis steps can be carried out as follows: 1. If a qualitative assessment is required, standard substances can be used to generate comparison spectra; If quantitative analysis can use standard materials as reference samples, the external standard method is employed ; 2. Analysis of the probable composition of gases that may be generated from the carbonization products ; 3. Inject standard substances to prepare comparison spectra, and determine the composition of the substances based on their retention times. 4. After determining the composition, determine the content using the external standard method. If possible, performing color-quality combined analysis yields more accurate results.
