What are the advantages and disadvantages of using bellows instead of straight tubes in shell-and-tube heat exchangers? Is it used in many practical applications?
Our company has manufactured water-to-water heat exchangers using bellows, but the results were not satisfactory, as scaling was quite severe. I’m not sure if it’s a problem with the water quality or the flow rate of the water. However, it is said that modern double bellows have resolved the scaling issue through improvements to their internal structure. However, it has not been used in practice yet, and its effectiveness needs to be verified.
