Many cities these days have sewage treatment systems with a daily processing capacity of over 300,000 tons. The city where I live has two such treatment plants. Let’s talk about some aspects of sewage treatment~ I’m not specialized in this field, but I think it’s a field with great potential for development

In accordance with the requirements of the **Environmental Protection Administration (Document No. Huan Fa (2005) 110), water-scarce areas in the north are required to utilize reclaimed water, with the quality of this water having to meet Class A standards. Conventional treatment methods are not sufficient to meet these requirements; the main treatment techniques currently in use include modified SBR, contact oxidation, and AAO processes. Process control is quite strict, yet the actual performance of these methods is not always optimal. The main problems faced by urban sewage treatment plants include: 1. Low operational rates, which prevent full-capacity operation; 2. Inadequate control over the quality of wastewater entering the plants, resulting in substandard treatment outcomes and wastewater that does not meet required standards; 3. Inability to effectively treat special pollutants generated by enterprises, leading to illegal discharges that affect the performance of sewage treatment plants. Therefore, while technical controls are important, strengthening management and implementing strict monitoring of both incoming and outgoing water quality are also essential. This field has great potential for growth, but it’s not easy to earn money individually. Modern sewage treatment plants are fully automated; those with a daily capacity of around 200,000 tons of treated wastewater have only a dozen or so employees. Not many people who have graduated in environmental engineering manage to find jobs at wastewater treatment plants.
