Determination of tank residence time

How is the residence time for various tanks determined? Specifically, for the intermediate tank at the pump inlet?
Our general principle for calculation is a residence time of 15 to 20 minutes; if the flow rate is high, it can be reduced to 10 minutes. This is the principle applied to the residence time in the reflux tank. It’s somewhat rough, but I hope it will be useful
Could it be considered to use the volume of the feed pump along with the density of the material, and compare them with the parameters used for calibration, in order to determine approximately how long the material stays there? (In simple terms, the retention time refers to the liquid level.)
