When exposed to 200–300 mg/m3, symptoms such as eyelid spasm and blurred vision may also occur. (IV) Effects of long-term exposure: Prolonged exposure to low concentrations of hydrogen sulfide can lead to a decrease in the sense of smell. Exposure to concentrations of 100 mg/m3 or higher may cause lung damage. (5) Fires and explosions: This product is highly flammable; open flames, sparks, and smoking are strictly prohibited. Its vapor-air mixture is explosive. Sulfur dioxide, a toxic gas, is produced during combustion. The production site should be equipped with explosion-proof devices. (VI) Chemical reactivity: It reacts with metal ions to form salts, and it is highly corrosive to metals such as iron. It reacts violently with oxidizers and is prone to catching fire or exploding. (7) Personal protection: Inhalation: When the gas concentration is unknown or exceeds the exposure limit, an oxygen respirator or a gas mask equipped with a filter canister marked gray should be worn. Eyes: Wear chemical safety goggles. (8) First aid: In case of inhalation, the rescuer should wear an oxygen respirator and safely move the patient to an area with fresh air. If the patient’s breathing stops, artificial respiration should be performed immediately. Hydrogen sulfide is highly toxic; mouth-to-mouth respiration is not advisable; chest compressions are the preferred method, and they should be continued for more than 2 hours. Eyes: Open the eyelids and rinse the affected eye with saline or a 1-3% sodium bicarbonate solution. (IX) Storage and transportation: fire prevention, refrigeration, and airtight sealing. (10) Safety and handling: Strengthen sealing, ventilation, and gas removal during the production process. When dealing with sewage tanks and pulp tanks, it is necessary to first check whether hydrogen sulfide gas is present in those areas. If it exists, local ventilation should be provided first before starting work. Emissions of waste gas containing hydrogen sulfide must comply with environmental protection regulations.
