I am currently in charge of the computer lab in our school. One of the computers is a Lenovo model – its chassis is the Tiantian M2400, with a CPU of 2.8 GHz, a motherboard of type 845GV_1888_8100, 128 MB of memory, and a 40 GB hard drive. Many students are currently working on their graduation projects and need to use computer simulation software; they require version 11.1 of Aspen. I would like to ask for some advice from those who are more experienced – how I can carry out this computer upgrade at the lowest possible cost.

A motherboard that can support 128 MB of memory may not be compatible with the memory available on the market today.
Your CPU is fine; the memory is too small. I don’t know how many slots your computer has. My computer has 1.1 GHz processor, 256 MB of memory, and 30 GB of storage, and it works well for running Aspe 11.1. I think your computer is sufficient for teaching your students – why do you want to upgrade it?
It comes down to the essential aspects: buy DDR memory (avoid DDRII; DDR versions are labeled with numbers like 333 or 400, with higher numbers indicating faster speeds). 1GB of such memory will suffice, and you can use it with confidence. The simplest and most effective solution is to increase the memory capacity. First, find out what the frequency of your memory is – you can check the specifications of your computer’s brand, or look it up online. It could be 100, 133, 266, or 333 MHz; it’s likely to be 266 MHz or less. Then go to a computer store that sells used computers and purchase a 256 MB memory stick; such a stick costs around 30 yuan.
The motherboard for 845 seems to be compatible with 333 and 266 MHz memory; 400 MHz memory can also be used at a lower frequency. If I remember correctly, the maximum capacity for those first two types of memory is around 512 MB, and they are no longer in production. So I suggest you buy a 512 MB DDR333 memory stick from a second-hand market; Also, since your motherboard is a GV model, the integrated graphics will consume some of your valuable memory resources. Check to see if there’s an AGP slot; if so, it would be good to add another used graphics card. Your U and hard drive are already sufficient; there is no room for further upgrades.
