The pointer of the magnetic float flow meter used at the outlet of the diaphragm compressor in our facility swings excessively; it can move from 0 to 180 Nm3/h, and the frequency of these swings is quite high, which makes it impossible to read the flow rate accurately. There is a buffer tank installed at the compressor outlet, but its volume is not large. Have any of you encountered similar problems? Please help us find a solution. The operating conditions for this flow meter in our facility are normal temperature and around 4.0 MPa. Is it because the buffer tank is too small, resulting in a weak effect of buffering pulsations and causing excessive fluctuations in the rotameter? In a situation like yours, pulsations will have an impact on basically all flowmeters. Unless the buffer tank is enlarged and the distance from the outlet to the flow meter is increased to minimize the impact of pulsations on flow accuracy
It would be better to choose a magnetic float flowmeter with damping.
It’s not a magnetic float flow meter; it’s a rotor flow meter. First, check whether the flow measurement range of this flow meter matches the output flow of the compressor. Additionally, manufacturers of rotameters offer a model with a damping mechanism, which could be considered for use.
