Reasons and advantages/disadvantages of horizontal and vertical arrangements for reboilers

I used to work in oil refining; now I work with ethylene. I found that the bottom reboilers in refineries are generally arranged horizontally. But when it came to ethylene, I found that many reboilers, such as those in the butadiene extraction unit, were almost all vertical (fixed tube sheet type). The advantage of a vertical layout, as far as I can tell, is that it reduces the space required. I hope everyone will discuss the deeper reasons behind this and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of both layout types.
