What is the purpose of the slide installed under the tube bundle of a U-tube heat exchanger? Is it welded to the shell? I don’t know much about heat exchangers; I hope those with more experience can give me some guidance. This post was last edited by fengmei on 2009-3-18 11:46]
It facilitates the installation of tube bundles; details can be found in GB151
The slide rail serves to support the tube bundle as it is pushed into the housing, and it is fixed to the tube bundle by spot welding

Functions of the slide: 1. To support the tube bundle; 2. To provide guidance for the expansion of the tube bundle when the heat exchanger is in use. The slide is welded to the tube bundle fins
The slide plate is welded into the grooves of the baffle or support plate, rising 0.5–1 millimeter above the baffle in the diameter direction, and forms a single unit with the tube bundle.
The main function is: when the tube bundle is heavy and long, since the tubes are first inserted into the shell beforehand, it becomes easier to push the entire tube bundle forward during its assembly within the shell. Easy to install. The slide is an opening in the baffle, welded to it.
