A dryer should be installed in the air supply system pipelines (both molecular sieves and color-changing silica gel can be used). 3. During operation, it is necessary to strictly follow the operating procedures; for example, the bridge current of the TCD must be activated only when there is a carrier gas, and the set temperature of the FID detector must not be lower than 100 degrees. 4. There should be dedicated record books for the daily use and maintenance of GC, with specific individuals assigned to handle them. 5. The purity of the gas used must meet the requirements for GC use. 6. Care must be taken to ensure that the hydrogen pipeline does not leak, as this can be dangerous. To ensure a long service life for the instrument, daily protection is very important.
It is highly beneficial to extend the service life of GC
The GC maintenance in our analysis laboratory is as follows: 1. Inspection of the various air valves, primarily by using soapy water to check for leaks; 2. Daily checking of the pressure in the gas cylinders – if the gas is exhausted, it must be replaced immediately and recorded. This step is no longer necessary with the use of a gas generator, as there are no longer any gas cylinders needed; 3. Regular cleaning of the chromatography column, usually by using ethanol to remove organic impurities from within, and heating can also help eliminate certain impurities and gases; 4. The GC in our analysis laboratory operates almost 24 hours a day, and the following maintenance tasks are generally carried out: 1. Regularly replace and clean the liner of the vaporization chamber; the sampling pad is replaced from time to time. 2. Analysts report on the condition of the instrument at the end of each shift, including gas usage levels. 3. The exterior of the instrument is cleaned once a week. 4. Compressed air is used to clean the interior of the instrument and remove dust on a quarterly basis. These measures ensure that the chromatograph can operate stably over the long term, maintains good separation and analysis performance, guarantees accurate analysis results, and also extends the instrument’s service life.
