About the Shortcut model

When I use the shortcut model to calculate the theoretical plate, adding a side stream draw introduces two additional control variables, resulting in a total of four control variables that need to be specified. Apart from the requirements that must be met at the top and bottom of the tower, at most the amount of material taken from the side streams or the concentration of a certain component in those side stream outputs can be specified. So how should another control variable be defined?
There are many things that can be specified, such as the temperature at the top of the tower, or the heat load in certain areas – anything is possible. I have worked on the side-stream extraction from an atmospheric tower; at the beginning, shortcuts were used. There are three side streams and eight rules in total, and anything reasonable can be established as a rule. Besides, since it’s a design-based approach, it’s quite easy to arrive at a solution.
