As mentioned in the title, I’ve run into a problem recently: when ordering a packed tower, there are no gas-liquid equilibrium data available, which makes it impossible to calculate the packing height. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Or should we simply assume a reflux ratio? Or, instead of having it custom-made, you can simply buy a ready-made tower and then use experimental methods to determine the optimal value. How do you all do it?
I’m not sure which components you are trying to separate; you can use Aspen for simulation, as it has a very comprehensive database. Most common gas-phase components come with data on gas-liquid equilibrium as well as binary interaction data. Tianjin University sells such experimental equipment that can be used to measure gas-liquid equilibrium data!
Without any data, I think you should just draw on the experiences of other factories! ! ! But I think it mainly has to do with your own raw materials – the impact of that is significant!
You can ask a friend to go to the school library to look up the information. The data on gas-liquid equilibrium available in the library’s handbook is quite comprehensive; I think this is a solution
For certain substances such as fine chemical intermediates, they are not available in simulation software. This requires conducting experiments to gather data; generally, performing batch distillation tests is sufficient, as there is no need to determine vapor-liquid equilibrium data (unless one is in a process engineering role and able to put multiple units into operation).
Then it will be necessary to measure the gas-liquid phase equilibrium data; the small tower can also be used for that purpose.
