If the design gas processing capacity of a low-temperature methanol washing unit is 136,000 NM3/h, its minimum gas processing capacity is 102,000 NM3/h. The minimum flow rate is generally 75% of the design capacity of the device. When the flow rate is below the minimum level, it becomes difficult to control the entire system. Additionally, it’s possible that the methanol in the tower does not fully cover the trays, which may lead to gas flowing in an unintended direction and preventing proper contact between gas and liquid. It’s the purified gas that isn’t active.
The typical design load for equipment is generally between 70% and 120%! It might still be possible to carry out production at levels below 70%, as I saw in one procedure
In our design, 50% is normal.
Normal production is possible at a load of 70%-120%, and operation is also feasible at 50% during startup.
Of course, for chemical processing units, the higher the system load, the better; generally, they operate at around half capacity during operation! We have also operated at a minimum of 30~40%!
Can 30-40% produce qualified stripping gas? I think when driving, gradually increasing the load and adjusting the operating conditions to a lower level can help, but in such cases poor gas-liquid contact will affect the production efficiency. Generally, it is estimated that with good design, it’s around 60%
