First, mass transfer occurs through two-phase mixing, and then the two phases separate.
The question is a bit too broad; simply put, it’s mixing – separating.
The two media are thoroughly mixed in the mixing chamber, where a chemical reaction takes place; as a result, a certain metal to be extracted from the aqueous phase is transferred into the organic phase. It then flows naturally to the clarification chamber, where separation occurs due to the difference in specific gravities of the two media, thereby achieving the purpose of purification and removal of impurities.
