(Chutian Metropolis Daily) (Reporter Tan Hailiang) Recently, researchers from the School of Science of Huazhong Agricultural University developed an efficient and environmentally friendly catalyst to solve a pollution problem in the biodiesel manufacturing process. The relevant results were published as a cover article in GreenChemistry, a journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The main authors of this paper are Professor Zheng Xinsheng and Xie Jie, a 2006 master's degree student in pesticide science. According to reports, biodiesel is a renewable biomass energy that can be used as a substitute for depleted petroleum resources. Previously, traditional catalysts in the biodiesel production process faced shortcomings such as high energy consumption, high resource consumption, and low efficiency, which restricted the further development of biodiesel. Therefore, how to obtain efficient and environmentally friendly catalysts is a research area that has attracted widespread academic attention. Zheng Xinsheng and others broke through the traditional process and finally developed a new catalyst. The catalyst has the advantages of low pollution, high efficiency, and long-term reuse. It will promote the development of biodiesel preparation technology in an environmentally friendly direction. Currently, the researchers are applying for a patent and further improving the catalyst's catalytic performance.
