Furthermore, the concept of hot standby in computers is equivalent to the corresponding concept in chemical engineering; computer technology is relatively newer, so it’s unlikely that chemical engineering has adopted computer concepts. Here, “hot” does not refer to temperature but rather to a state, meaning it is ready to be incorporated into the system at any time. Take the hot oil pump as an example: the hot standby pump must keep its interior filled with hot oil and undergo exhaust to maintain the temperature; the outlet valve may also need to be opened (depending on the size of the outlet pipeline), and it can be started for use by powering it up whenever needed. Thermal standby of the gasifier requires that the temperature inside the furnace be maintained above the minimum gasification temperature, so that it can be put into use at any time as required by the process. Conventional pumps, on the other hand, do not require temperature maintenance; once filled with water and the air is removed, they can be put into use at any time.

The hot standby here is merely a stable state during normal operation or shutdown; it is often a necessary process in either operating or shut-down conditions. Of course, depending on the actual production situation, this process can be long or short. This process usually occurs when the auxiliary systems are already in operation, the device is in a relatively stable and safe state, and the main system can be brought online at any time. Generally speaking, this state refers to the entire system; it is rarely used to refer to a single device.

The thermal standby of the gasifier in coal gasification follows a similar principle.
