Why is a water seal used in the first stage of a two-stage extraction pump while a steam trap is used in the second stage?

The pressure in the first gas chamber of a two-stage steam ejector is not negative; the water seal serves to prevent gases from entering the condenser. The secondary stage is under negative pressure, and a drain trap can be used to remove water. These are just personal opinions. Please share your opinions.
Same question – I would appreciate some guidance from those who are more experienced; I’ve just started working with secondary extractors recently.
