The gas flows upward through the liquid via floating valves to the upper tray. The liquid flows over the overflow weir and falls onto the next layer of trays. The main cause of the leakage is that the floating valve is stuck and cannot close.
The liquid passes through the floating valve to the next tray. This may be caused by too low a gas flow rate, too high an opening ratio of the trays, or too high a liquid flow rate.
During normal operation of the float valve tray in low-temperature methanol washing, gas passes upward through the liquid via the float valves to the upper tray. The liquid coming from the upper tray flows down to this tray through the downcomer, where it comes into contact with the gas passing through the various float valves, absorbing substances such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. Then it flows over the overflow weir of this tray and goes down to the next tray through the downcomer. If it leaks throughout the night, the leakage occurs from each float valve.
