It seems there are few posts on noise control in this section; let’s post one to encourage discussion among everyone. A company’s control room is located next to the cold dryer plant and is equipped with double-layer windows measuring 1.5*2.0 meters. There are 4 cold dryers in the cold dryer plant, which are responsible for supplying purified air throughout the facility. It has mainly three noise sources: 1) noise from the Freon compressor, 2) noise generated by the flow of compressed air in the pipes, 3) noise produced during venting before the adsorption tower is regenerated (the regeneration cycle of the adsorption tower is 10 minutes; a silencer is installed afterward, but the impact noise remains high). Measurements show that the maximum noise level in the cold dryer plant can reach 101 decibels. The continuous equivalent sound level in the control room is 58.7 decibels. I would like to ask the experts: what other measures can be taken to reduce noise?
I have studied noise to some extent, and my personal opinions are as follows: 1. Improve equipment maintenance and lubrication; 2. Pipe insulation material coating ; 3. If possible, install a soundproof enclosure around the equipment ; 4. Replace doors and windows with sound-insulating types ; 5. Regarding the noise during venting, if possible, installing a buffer tank before the silencer might help reduce the sound level of the venting. 6. Another measure is to provide personnel with ear muffs or earplugs. The above are my personal opinions for reference only; please point out any errors if there are any!

Based on my own understanding, this Freon compressor already has a sound-insulating cover in place, so there is little room for further modifications. As the noise generated by the compressed air flow comes from the exposed pipelines, it might be possible to add some sound-absorbing materials. As for the noise produced during venting, a silencer has already been installed, so there isn’t much more that can be done in terms of modifications. If the standards are not met even after taking the above measures, it can only be said that the layout of the control room is unreasonable; change its location! ! ! Please point out any mistakes! ! !
Neither the silencer nor the soundproof enclosure is very efficient. Generally, it can only be reduced by a few dozen decibels. Your glass is already double-layered; it seems there’s no better solution available. It seems that only by installing louvers and double-glazed windows in the control room can the noise level there be reduced by more than 10 decibels.
Personal suggestion: Reduce vibrations of the compressor, minimize pipe resistance, use as few elbows as possible, and replace wall panels with foam boards
If the noise remains high even with a soundproof enclosure, it is necessary to use sound-absorbing materials with good absorption properties; reducing the noise level from 101 dn to around 50 should not be a problem. Noise attenuation is rapid, especially for high-frequency noises, but it is more difficult to deal with low-frequency noises.
