Conditions and time limits for scrapping building fire extinguishers: 1. Types of extinguishers to be scrapped Article 5.4.1 of the GB50444-2008** standard specifies the types of fire extinguishers that should be scrapped. 5.4.1 The following types of fire extinguishers should be scrapped: 1 Acid-base type fire extinguishers ; 2 Chemical foam fire extinguishers ; 3 Inverted-use fire extinguishers ; 4-chlorobromomethane, carbon tetrachloride fire extinguishers ; 5** Other types of fire extinguishers explicitly banned by policy. Table 5.4.3 Expiry Period for Fire Extinguishers Fire Extinguisher Type Expiry Period (years) Water-based fire extinguishers Portable water-based fire extinguishers: 6 Tank-mounted water-based fire extinguishers: 10 Dry powder fire extinguishers Portable (pressure storage type) dry powder fire extinguishers: 10 Portable (gas cylinder type) dry powder fire extinguishers: 10 Tank-mounted (pressure storage type) dry powder fire extinguishers: 10 Tank-mounted (gas cylinder type) dry powder fire extinguishers: 10 Clean gas fire extinguishers Portable clean gas fire extinguishers: 10 Tank-mounted clean gas fire extinguishers: 10 Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers Portable carbon dioxide fire extinguishers: 12 Tank-mounted carbon dioxide fire extinguishers: 12 This table covers the 5 types of fire extinguishers that are subject to being retired. These types of fire extinguishers are technologically outdated and their products are obsolete; when used to extinguish fires, they may cause mechanical injuries or toxic hazards to those who use them. Moreover, they all fall under the category of fire extinguishers that have been phased out on a global/international scale. Therefore, once these types of fire extinguishers are discovered during monthly inspections, routine checks, or intensified weekly inspections, they should be deemed unusable and discarded, even if they have never been used, without the need for repair. 1.
