In a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, each tube is bent into a U-shape, with both the inlet and outlet of the tubes located on the same tube sheet. Generally, considering the phenomenon of water hammer that occurs during steam use (when steam contains water, it impacts the walls of equipment at high speeds, resulting in extremely loud noises and vibrations; of course, this leads to damage to the equipment), it is necessary to remove the water from the steam before it reaches sections of narrower pipes (as liquid water is likely to form during such diameter changes). The U-shaped component is used, aside from accommodating thermal expansion and contraction, primarily to create a low point for water removal! !
