Advantages and disadvantages of tank separation versus integrated tank design in small and medium-sized limestone wet flue gas desulfurization (scrubbing) systems.
It seems the post is going to sink – why are there no replies?
The tower and tank design facilitates cleaning and reduces the risk of blockages in the tower. Having the tower and tank integrated does not necessarily save on investment, but it certainly saves space. This post was last edited by ddfmy on 2009-3-29 20:59]
Tower-tank separation refers to external oxidation within the tower; with external oxidation, all precipitates remain in the tank, allowing the desulfurization by-products to be dealt with. This prevents blockages inside the tower. Tower-tank integration means that the oxidation by-products stay inside the tower, which helps save space, but stirring is required to prevent precipitation. Even so, it is not possible to guarantee complete avoidance of blockages.

Whether separated or not, scaling is severe. Personally, I think separation is better.
Tower-tank separation requires a large amount of space, and integrated tower-tank designs are too tall!
