Depend on* * Under the guidance of the State Environmental Protection Administration, the first domestic environmental protection index compiled by the China Environmental Culture Promotion Association - "China Public Environmental Protection and People's Livelihood Index (2006)" (People's Livelihood Index 2006) was officially announced on January 15. Among the 14 types of issues surveyed, the public is most concerned about food safety issues, with 82% of those surveyed being relatively concerned and very concerned. The People's Livelihood Index 2006 conducted a nationwide sample survey, covering 14 categories of issues including food safety, drinking water pollution, air pollution, garbage disposal, greening, noise pollution, river and lake pollution, sustainable development, land pollution, global greenhouse effect, land desertification, thinning of the ozone layer and reduction of biological species. Among them, the public is most concerned about food safety. Among the respondents, 47% are very concerned about it and 35% are somewhat concerned about it. Food safety issues caused by environmental pollution have increasingly become the focus of public attention. The pollution of soil and water sources and the use of large amounts of chemical fertilizers and pesticides have made people worried about food safety, which is directly related to their health. In cities, 17.2% of people are dissatisfied or not very satisfied with the use of pesticides and chemicals in their residential communities. Another issue that attracts a lot of attention is drinking water pollution. Among the people surveyed, 47% are very concerned about it, 34% are relatively concerned about it, and the sum of the two reaches 81%. 21.7% of people in the city are dissatisfied or not very satisfied with drinking water. The survey shows that the public's overall environmental awareness score is 57.05 points, the environmental protection behavior score is 55.17 points, and the environmental status satisfaction score is 60.2 points. This shows that the overall level of public environmental awareness is not high, participation in environmental protection is still very low, and satisfaction with environmental conditions is average. It is understood that the People's Livelihood Index 2006 consists of three first-level indicators: environmental awareness, environmental behavior, and satisfaction with environmental conditions. The environmental protection and livelihood index will be published annually in the future.
The reason why food safety ranks at the top of the list is closely related to the Sanlu milk powder incident. On the eve of the Olympics, I discussed this issue with my teacher. In order to host the Olympic Games, environmental issues in Beijing have received great attention. But in the end, which is more important, water pollution control or air pollution control? This cannot be generalized. As far as the Olympic period is concerned, it should be said that atmospheric management is more important. Why do you say this? The first thing foreigners come into contact with when they come to China is the air and blue sky. As for water, purified water can temporarily solve the problem. Therefore, the first thing foreigners should pay attention to is the air quality. At this stage, atmospheric management should be more important. The people's livelihood index can reflect some problems, but there are also certain deviations, which are determined by the generally low public awareness of environmental protection. At present, the arrival of the economic crisis has indeed greatly reduced the profits of many companies. * * In response to the economic crisis, heavy investment has been made, including in environmental protection. This should be an opportunity for us environmental protection practitioners. I believe that with the continuous development of environmental protection, the people's livelihood index will become more rational and more able to reflect more issues.
