Why is sulfur added in the preparation of water-coal slurry?
To replace the catalyst, a sulfur-resistant catalyst is used; during the initial startup phase, sulfur is added in order to carry out sulfidation and reduction of the catalyst. Under normal conditions, sulfur is added, but due to the low sulfur content in the syngas, desulfidation reactions can occur easily.
The main purpose is to prevent the transformation catalyst from undergoing reverse sulfidation; the sulfidation of new catalysts is primarily carried out through cyclic sulfidation, which yields better results than adding sulfur to coal
