Our company is set to start coking operations in the second half of the year, and it’s certain that catalyst production will require a certain amount of coking wax oil. May I ask the experts for advice? Are there any special considerations when using a heavy oil catalytic cracking unit to process coker wax oil? Thank you.
Coking wax oil requires hydrorefining. On the one hand, it improves the properties of the catalyst feedstock; on the other hand, it removes certain impurities to prevent catalyst coking as well as corrosion in other sections of the process and to reduce the processing load
The coking wax oil produced by our 1.4 million tons per year coking unit is fed directly into the 1.4 million tons per year catalytic cracking unit, where it undergoes catalytic cracking using the FDFCC-Ⅲ process, without any problems occurring. The main concern when using coker wax oil in catalytic processes is catalyst poisoning due to basic nitrogen; there are no other major issues. It is recommended to use it in blended form instead.
A feed filter must be installed to prevent pellets from accumulating at the inlet of the catalyst bed; furthermore, it is worth considering whether heavy wax, which contains a high amount of heavy aromatics, should be used as a catalytic feedstock
It is highly necessary to add a filter; based on past experience, blending is the best approach. Currently, there are significant differences in the properties of wax oils, which can lead to catalyst poisoning and resulting losses!
