When the plant for the catalytic synthesis of DOP using titanate catalysts is shut down for an extended period of time, problems such as inadequate hydrolysis of the titanate catalyst occur occasionally upon restart. This leads to saponification and emulsification due to neutralization and washing, making it difficult to separate water from the ester. Tests on the ester show alkalinity, and the yield of DOP decreases; these issues resolve on their own over several days. Based on production experience, there are many reasons that can lead to poor hydrolysis of the catalyst, mainly including: (1) quality issues with the catalyst itself, (2) high acidity of the esterifying acid, (3) long shutdown periods in the esterification process, (4) incorrect amounts of neutralization water and liquid alkali, (5) an inappropriate stirring speed in the neutralization tank, etc. I believe the most serious issue is the poor hydrolysis of the catalyst caused by long-term temporary parking, and it’s also the hardest to resolve; I think this is related to poisoning resulting from the reaction between the catalyst and the low-boiling substances produced by esterification. I would like experienced friends to have an in-depth discussion on the principles of poisoning and the corresponding solutions, as well as on how to avoid situations similar to those mentioned above during production.
