Hello everyone. While working in chemical and refining companies, we have all experienced accidents, big or small. Could you share with us any accidents that you have encountered, or those that you have seen or heard about in the production process? The size of the accident isn’t important; what matters is its educational value – it should inspire reflection and help us all become more aware of safety issues.
Many years ago, in a gas workshop, a sample collector went to the site alone to take gas samples and died from gas poisoning on the spot.
In August 2007, there was a hydrogen sulfide leak in the process area of our chemical plant. The operators responsible for that area (three people) discovered the leak but went to deal with it without wearing gas masks; one person went to close the valve, another watched from nearby, while the third was at some distance. As a result, all three were poisoned simultaneously. Once it was noticed, they were rushed to the hospital. The person who tried to close the valve died before reaching the hospital, while the two who were watching were rescued thanks to timely treatment. This accident shows that safety in chemical plants is extremely important; safety equipment must not be omitted at any time during work.
