As long as liquid ammonia fills the entire heat exchange tube, the liquid level in the ammonia cooler is independent of the cooling capacity and the system load; therefore, there is no need to raise the liquid level when the system’s load is reduced. On the contrary, it is important to prevent ammonia from entering the ice maker when the system’s load is decreased.
The liquid level should be lowered; less heat exchange can easily lead to an increase in the liquid level, which in turn can cause the chiller to operate with liquid inside it
Generally, when reducing the load, there is no need to change the liquid level in the ammonia cooler; only the circulation rate of methanol needs to be adjusted.
