Factors affecting the tower pressure in a distillation column, and the impact of each factor on other control parameters. How do changes in feed rate affect parameters such as tower pressure, bottom liquid level, and bottom temperature? What is the effect of increased reflux flow on the top pressure and temperature of the tower?
As the feed rate increases, it can increase the vapor-liquid load in the tower and raise the tower pressure. In the absence of a stripping section, the bottom liquid volume increases while the steam flow rate remains constant. If there is a stripping section and the heat in the reboiler remains constant, the bottom liquid volume will also increase.
