Which manufacturers’ DCS systems are currently used in methanol production plants? Please share your insights based on what you know.
Currently, the DCS systems that are most commonly used are Yokogawa’s CS3000 or Honeywell’s systems; both are excellent. Personally, I recommend the CS3000 as it is more intuitive and its configuration is simpler.

The ABB AC800F has several methanol applications. However, there are no higher performance levels compared to the Honeywell E-PKS system and the Yokogawa CS3000. Honeywell uses a mix of different systems – TPS, PKS C200, and PKS C300 are all in use. Emerson may be relatively more concerned about the performance of large petrochemical companies, and pay less attention to methanol. Therefore, DeltaV’s performance in the methanol sector is relatively low.
Just for the methanol production process, which includes air separation, shift reaction, desulfurization and decarburization, sulfur recovery, synthesis, and distillation, the DCS systems provided by Beijing HollySys and Zhejiang University Control Systems are excellent; they have a large number of successful implementations and offer very high cost-performance ratios. However, if an inerting section is included, control systems from Honeywell or Yokogawa must be used; domestic manufacturers do not yet have any relevant experience in this area. Additionally, the Honeywell PKS C200 mentioned earlier is the most mature product, but the PKS C300 system is still in the testing phase and is extremely unstable! !
